School of Engineering Postgraduate Research Symposium

22/10/2024 James Bradshaw and Anneliese Walsh presented their research project at the 2nd Postgraduate Research Symposium of the School of Engineering at Trinity College Dublin. Anneliese Walsh received an award for best presentation among 1st and 2nd year PhD projects.

European Researcher’s Night 2024

27/09/2024 In collaboration with Anusha Moran and Nathan Shields (ex-lab member) our lab was present at European Researcher’s Night 2024 showcasing real-time EEG signal monitoring and our research projects to the public. This was possible thanks to funding from Trinity College START, the Trinity Trust and the School of Engineering.

New PhD students in the Lopez Valdes Lab

04/09/2024 James Kevin Bradshaw and Anneliese Walsh have started their PhD projects after each being awarded a Trinity Research Doctorate Award. Their projects will investigate social disengagement and brain health metrics with unobtrusive EEG technology. on the 18/10/2024 we held the official kick-off meeting with the presence of Professor Preben Kidmose as a collaborator in these two projects from the Center for ear-EEG at Aarhus University in Denmark.

IEEE EMBS Conference in Orlando

15/07/2024 Alex Kennedy presented his MAI work on Brain Synchronization Dynamics at the IEEE EMBS Conference in Orlando, Florida. The Neural Engineering Group also had representation from the Reilly Lab with Professor Richard Reilly and Thomas Hartigan. Great space to meet collaborators and friends!

Global Brain Health Institute in Capetown!

17/05/2024 This year’s GBHI annual meeting and AAIC Satellite Symposium took place in Capetown, South Africa. An amazing place for connections, learning and promotion of brain health.

Dementia Researcher Podcast and Creative Brain Week 2024

12/03/2024 As part o the events of Creative Brain Week 2024, Prof. Lopez Valdes participated in a neuroscience chorus with Prof. Lorina Naci on the theme of Connection: How are people connected and what to? What connections do people ignore? Can connection be nurtured? Are we disconnected?

We also re-surface the Dementia Researcher podcast episode delving into GBHI and the exeperience of Global Brain Health Fellows.

The video recordings of the podcast and the neuroscience chorus are available in our research videos section

Neural Engineering for Everyone!

25/01/2024 We were awarded a TCD Trust Grant from the Trinity College Association and Trust to purchase 4 EEG systems for teaching, outreach and dissemination of neural engineering to the wider community.

Really looking forward to showing curious minds, how active a brain can be! If you are interested in participating in a work shop get in touch via our contact page.

This support is only possible through the benefits of the Affinity Credit Card program that allows for the TCD Grant scheme to exist and support a wide variety of College projects where funding is not available from mainstream resources.

End of the conference season with the GBHI Leadership Retreat 2023

28/10/2023 The new GBHI Atlantic Fellows for Brain Health Equity convened in Accra, Ghana for a week of transformative experiences. Understanding disparities, implementation challenges and learning collaborative strategies to drive change in the field of Brain Health Equity. I was fortunate to be a facilitator for this amazing group. Great things ahead!

Methods in Mobile EEG Conference 2.0

19/09/2023 A great showcase of mobile EEG methods organized by mbt in Belgrade. Our lab presented the latest results on our hyperscanning studies. This was a truly inspirational conference with great talks and a lot of food for thought!

Interspeech Conference

27/08/2023 It was great to welcome Ignacio back to Dublin and see him present the work of his MOSAICS secondment. To see the effects of spectro-temporal degradation in TRF analysis is something else! more to come on that…

IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Conference

28/07/2023 From Mexico to Australia! The lab showcased the work from Sean Farrel and Nathan Shields on how ‘The Mind’ card game promotes brain synchronization in hyperscanning EEG recordings. This conference always at the intersection of engineering and medicine. The keynotes highlighted how integrative our field can be.

Start of the conference season with the GBHI Annual Conference and AAIC Satellite Symposium 2023

01/06/2023 The Global Brain Health Institute made its way to Mexico City to have the annual conference, connect and get inspired with brain health leaders across the world. The GBHI presence at the AAIC Satellite Meeting that took place after was extremely powerful.

We are now open for new applications to the GBHI Fellowship to start in September 2024. Apply Here!

A new research capacity building grant was also announced during the event a great opportunity to strengthen Brain Health Research! Details Here!
